From the very first page this book had me hooked. It honestly had one of the best teaser paragraphs at the start that I’ve ever read. It set the tone for the book exceptionally well and left me eager to read more.

The writing was very captivating and compelling, with lots of twists and turns throughout that left me constantly wanting to see what would happen next. It didn’t take long for me to feel for Sarah over her situation at work. I felt that it was built up well and gave a real sense of hopelessness as she was truly backed into a corner over what to do. I was quite literally fuming on her behalf whilst reading this book, even though I was well aware of the fact that she was a fictional character.

What I loved most about this book however was the characters themselves, which I felt were wonderfully written and developed. The central character, Sarah, was someone that I found myself rooting for quite swiftly and I felt that her thoughts and actions were very believable most of the time. Many of the people who surrounded her were also developed well with background information, surprise revelations and a varying range of personalities that made them feel quite three dimensional. The true stand out character for me was Alan Lovelock however; he got under my skin very quickly and quite literally made my skin crawl at times. He was in the perfect position to get away with whatever he wanted and exploited his power time and time again. His words, his actions, his mannerisms and appearance all just came together to create a very true feeling – and dislikeable – villain. I was desperate for him to get his comeuppance.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller and am now very eager to check out T. M. Logan’s debut novel myself.
