The books set in lockdown have started to appear. At first, I was a bit dubious about reading something set in lockdown, however this book surprised me in more ways than one. It was enthralling from the beginning and it had me turning the pages fast to the end.

The title ’56 Days' had me intrigued alongside the premise of a perfect murder. The book is mostly written from the point of view of Ciara and Oliver set across a timeline jumping back and across 56 days while the present story is told through the lens of two savvy Garda DI Leah Riordan and DS Karl Connolly.

Ciara and Oliver meet in the queue of a local supermarket in Dublin just before the world was plunged into an unprecedented and unpredictable lockdown. After a few dates, Ciara moves in with Oliver. 56 days later one of them is dead, but who? Nobody knows they were together and no one was looking for them.

The whole plot had me gripped and found Ciara to be a relatable character at the start of a tentative romantic chance, whereas Oliver had me wondering all the way through if he had good or bad intentions with a hint of a shady past.

Overall, this was an engrossing read and if anything I would of liked a little less jumping around between time lines and slightly less repetition in some chapters. However, I would recommend this book and really liked that the book was structured across different timelines and told through different character perspectives.

Additionally, thank you to Readers First for an advance reading copy and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
