Anton du Beke has a terrific formula with the books centred round life at the Buckingham Hotel and their ballroom. This is the third book in the series and A Christmas to Remember carries on from the first two books and it's now 1938. The ballroom is being refurbished followng a fire and there's lots of talk and rumours about the situation in Europe. There are all the characters readers met at the hotel in the first two books. The central characters are Nancy Nettleton and Raymond de Guise. They met when Nancy joined the staff at the Buckingam Hotel where Raymond is the star dancer alongside his dancing partner, Helene Marchmont, and their friendship developed into a romance. Helene has a daughter who's looked after by her late father's parents and Helene struggles to find time to spend with her with all her duties at the hotel. There's Nancy's brother, Frank, and his girlfriend, Rosa, Vivienne Egerton, the daughter of the chairman of the board, who has had a troubled past but now spends her time and allowance helping people with problems. Billy Brogan, a hotel concierge, is back and working closely with Maynard Charles, the hotel director. Emmeline Moffat, the head housekeeper, has problems of her own in this latest book and is supported by Archie Adams, the leader of the hotel orchestra. Then there are the guests with all their stories and not all of them are what they claim to be. Extremely enjoyable, can't wait for the next one. Only one complaint, it would be great if the author could write quicker.
