Awwww big sigh. How wonderful is Anton to write a book for Christmas time. I must admit I did save this one, with great difficulty, for the festive period, and I’m so glad I did. I loved the first two books in this series, set in the thirties in the Buckingham Hotel, and this, the third instalment did not disappoint. The characters are so well written, you start to feel like you know them. There’s quite a few storylines going on at once, both sad and happy. If you haven’t read the previous two books you’ll be fine, there’s a wee recap at the beginning and the novel stands well on its own. I really look forward to the next in the series, I hope. With war on the horizon I would think there’s a few great stories to come. To sum it up, it’s Downton Abbey crossed with Upstairs Downstairs set at Christmas and New Years. It’s just a little bit of oldey worldey escapism, what’s not to love?
