I have to say - having read this book - brilliant !
Set in the Buckingham Hotel we meet some of the characters who work their and are guests at the hotel. Anton du Beke has once again set and a pregnancy - a novel between pages of mystery, intrigue, worry, romance, weddings, affairs and even a spy all with a flurry of festivities that is Christmas.
It is 1968 and Nancy, the chambermaid and Raymond, the dancer, fall in love and are to get married.The director of the hotel Maynard has been coerced into working for MI5 as a spy. War is looming and you somehow get the sense that the characters each in their own way know what is around the corner. But that doesn't stop them living for the here and now.
This novel would make a great Christmas present for any old romantics out there but I do have to wonder if when Anton titled this book he could possible have known that Christmas 2020 would be one to remember !!
