I have been meaning to try one of Anton's books for some time now and so when I saw this was available I downloaded the taster immediately, and I am so glad I did!
My background is in the hospitality industry so the fact that it is set in The Buckingham, a top London hotel in the late 1930s makes it instantly feel welcoming to me, as do the characters.
Everything about the sample makes you want more - the introduction leaves you worried but sure everything will be OK, the wartime setting of course means we know more than the characters and that is sad, but also interested to see how they all do as the Second World War arrives and wreaks havoc on London (and Europe) and the storyline is definitely interesting enough in two chapters to make you want to carry on reading.
The writing style is great - good flow, great descriptions and fabulous characterisations.
