I received this book from Readers first in exchange for a fair and honest review.

During the winter of 1917, Kate Cartwright is invited to spend the weekend at the manor house of Blackwater Abbey, a house situated on its on island off the Devon coast in England. Along with other guests of Lord Highmount, Kate and her comrades are invited for a weekend of spirits and other ghostly goings on's, when Lord Highmount arranges a spiritualist gathering in order to contact his two sons who were lost during the war.
When the guests arrive, the weather takes a turn and strands them on the island, leaving them to their darker secrets that some will go to any lengths to try and keep hidden while others are hiding things they think are for the best until a time that it can be unveiled.

Haunted by ghosts of the past and newer, Kate and the people she comes to meet must find their way through the dangers of a killer on the loose, find their way through secret passages of the house. And just who is really behind the attacks and the documents which just been leaked to the Germans?

Well written, A house of ghosts takes you in and keeps you spell bound from the very first page. With plenty of twists and turns and moments to leave you wanting to yell at the characters, W.C.Ryan takes you back to the mist of the worst moment of the first world war and the troubles that it leaves families with. It leaves you with a feeling that you could describe as creepy and unsettling in some parts, while others leaves your heart racing with wanting to know what will happen next.
It's a book that I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to read a ghost story and be taking in for a ride from the very beginning of the book.
