A Memory For Murder is the first book that I've read by Anne Holt. It's an engaging thriller which is well written and nicely translated. It's the third(?) book in a series and although there is always enough explained of the past to make the book readable I think I would have benefitted from reading the other books first. My knowledge of Norwegian politics and history isn't particularly amazing and the weaving in of real events and issues that are obviously part of the Norwegian political debate was interesting. I also always enjoy something about the exotic barrage of Norwegian names and places that must be part of the appeal of the Scandi-noir genre to those of us in the English speaking world. The plot does seem to get bogged down a bit in places and the book could perhaps have been a little more concise but overall it's satisfyingly complex and an enjoyable ride.
