I was introduced to both Anne Holt and her Selma Falck series last year by Readers First. Since Norwegian crime fiction is so popular and well respected world wide, I knew that, as Norway's bestselling female crime writer, Holt's books were going to be something special and they are. Protagonist Falck is a layer turned PI, and since Holt herself worked for the police before founding her own law firm, she has the practical experience and the technical know-how to back up her fictional claims. The description of events, friendship and mystery are expertly woven throughout the book by Holt's expertly wonderful use of prose, and show that even in translation the words lose none of their beauty.

Although the third instalment of the series, it can be read as a stand alone book, and I have enjoyed both the second and third books without yet reading the first. The books' covers are also exquisitely simple and yet loaded with meaning, beautiful on any bookshelf; and the name itself is intriguing enough to grab the attention and help the potential reader experience a wonderfully thrilling novel.
