Painful

Once again, not my usual type of read, but I have been trying to challenge myself and read a bit outside of my usual genres over the last couple of years, so this was one of those attempts. Anne Holt is obviously well known for Nordic crime fiction, so this felt like a safe bet to give it a go although I had not previously read anything by the author. The book sets the scene pretty quickly, it reads well and at the beginning you just want to find out what happens next. And then, something strange happens and it all goes downhill from there. Pages and pages go and on without anything actually happening, it all gets very dry and confusing and you start losing interest and only keep going because you feel this is supposed to be a good book by a good writer. My research suggested that there are previous books with the same characters, so perhaps I missed out on getting to know them and connecting with them, but I just did not enjoy this book at all and found it painful to keep going.
