I wasn't initially aware that this was book 3 in a series so I was a little worried it may hold back my enjoyment of the story but I needn't had worried. The background of the main character Selma was explained when needed although I suppose a more indepth knowledge may have helped my understanding a little better.
The book begins with a chance meeting of two strangers and the women demands a baby from the stranger she meets, no names were given and the story immediately comes to present day and the lunch date of Selma and her friends. When eating there was a shot fired and her friend is killed. What follows is the investigation into the shooting as well as a number of other background stories from other key players which further complicates the story.
The amount of characters introduced, and the change of story it brings, I did find quite confusing. The pace of the story also changes a lot during the book but I did find it picks back up and was ultimately a good read.
