Carol Ann Lee has uncovered a wealth of sources in order to compile this book,'A Passion for Poison', which tells the story of the Graham Young and his fascination, from a very early age, with poisonous substances and their effects. So much so that murder becomes the inevitable result.

A comprehensive bibliography and section of endnotes is given and this reveals a range of primary and secondary source material. As with all historical research it is essential to be aware that such sources are open to individual interpretation which may or may not be swayed by personal feeling to a greater or lesser extent. In fact, many of Lee's sources are found in the writings of the tabloid newspapers of the day, and are therefore, perhaps, subject to a greater amount of sensationalism in the recording of events, in order to sway or satisfy their audience. Alongside this, observance is paid to many witness statements which give the subjective viewpoint of those closer to the events, without further interpretation from the outside.

All in all I found this a very engrossing read and would recommend it.
