This book is exactly what it says on the tin: it is a spy thriller that is set during World War Two with links to the royal family.

I have given this book three stars, not because it is a badly or adequately written book but just because it wasn't my cup of tea. While I like crime thrillers, I am not as interested in these types of novels because I find myself unable to relate to the characters and understand their motives.

This is a well written book with an interesting lead character. The plotting is strong but it is a long book and the pacing was off in places while in others I was completely engrossed and turning pages quickly.

I did find it hard to keep up with all the characters and remember who they were. This took away from my enjoyment as I was no longer trying to solve the whodunnit because I just didn't know who these people were! While the main character was likeable, I did find that it was a bit stereotypical, particularly in its portrayal of men and "beautiful" women.

All in all, it was fine. If you like this kind of thing, you will probably love it but if you are not a typical spy thriller reading - this won't be the book to convince you.
