I often think it takes a trip down memory lane to the war days to fully appreciate life as we know it today. So many sacrifices were made, materially and personally to make you put things into perspective today. While sons, brothers and husbands were fighting for their country, life had to continue back home with the threat of bombing and lost love ones but the stoic determination to not crumble and to keep spirits high was so commendable to the women, who had to feed and clothe families as if everything was normal.
I would love to read Jean Fullerton’s latest book “A Ration Book Childhood” to get a real feel for how life was during the rationing years and I hope to be lucky in the Readers First generous draw.
