This book really made you feel part of the story. It was well written and engaging from the first page to the last. I didnt want it to finish.
It is a heart warming story about a families struggle in war and how they pull together even if they are feuding. The characters were all interesting and each had there own story to tell.
There were sad, funny and lovely parts.
Ida needs a medal for what she was put through but even though Ellen and Jeremiah were in the wrong I couldnt help still feeling sorry for Ellen.
The atmosphere of the book made you feel like you were there and made you think what it must have been like in wartime all in shelters waiting until morning to go up onto the street to see what has been bombed this time and who had met tragedy.
Queenie made me chuckle throughout with her scheming.
Definitely worth a read.
