Jean Fullerton's Ration Book Series of books is an absolute delight. In A Ration Book Daughter the author starts by focusing on Cathy Brogan who is now Cathy Wheeler since marrying Stan and having a little boy, Peter. After marrying, Cathy moved in with Stan and his mother and discovered she was expected to do everything for his mother despite never getting any thanks and when she complained to Stanley he turned violent. At the start of the book Stan is in Africa and word has come through of Monty's victory at El Alamein. When Cathy returns home she receives a telegram that Stan is missing in action and she knows that in six months she will officially be a widow if Stan isn't found. Meanwhile the author introduces her readers to Sergeant Archie McIntosh who works in bomb disposal. It's going to be fascinating reading how the author brings these two characters together. And there's even more good news, Jean Fullerton is already working on the next book in The Ration Book Series.
