A wonderful, engaging book that reminded me of happy times during my childhood in the 50's. The author brought to life the money we all used before decimalisation, the buses and phone box's to name a few and general everyday living.
It had a great storyline that kept me wanting to turn the page and continue reading.
Cathy and her family were close and stuck together through all the tough times during WWII. Cathy's husband Stan was away fighting the war in North Africa and she felt relieved she didn't have to put up with the violence he dished out on a regular basis. Her mother-in-law Violet, whom Cathy lived with tried to make her life as miserable as she could every day.
Archie and his team of Royal Engineers' Bomb Squad were weaved throughout the storyline and I liked the way Archie's and Cathy's lives were brought together.
I would definitely recommend this book. Great plot, great writing and a lovely finish.
