Jean Fullerton did not disappoint, this book was a brilliant read. It focused on Cathy, a married mum of 1 little boy, whose brute of a husband was away in the army, she wished she had never married him and suffered his mother who lived with them. But soon she has news of her husband missing in action and that gives her hope of a new life free from misery. Then she meets the handsome bomb disposal sergeant Archie and falls in love, but love is never easy and they have a few ups and downs to contend with.
The book is very well written and gives a great insight into what went on in the war, especially at home with all the bombings and air raids, and what the women went through to keep the country going, working hard and keeping houses whilst thier loved ones fought in the war. I would definitely recommend reading this if you like reading about world war 2.
