This is my first foray into the world of Jean Fullerton and I was most impressed with both the historical knowledge engrained into the story especially the Bethnal Green Tube disaster of 1943. as well as the characters.
Long suffering Cathy is awaiting news of her not so nice husband Stanley who has been fighting overseas and now missing in action. Cathy is hopeful that if Stanley does not turn up in the next six months, she will be released from his clutches and be a free woman.
Cathy and her son go to live with their mother in law, Violet who is both controlling and devious.
This book is a "cant put down" kind of book, filled with many twists and turns.
Even though this is book 5, I didn't feel I had missed out by not reading the other four. Notwithstanding, I now want to delve into the first four books written by Ms Fullerton and am waiting with baited breath for the last book in the series.
