Having read the previous Ration Book series of books I was looking forward to the final book and it didn't disappoint. It was hard to recognise Queenie as the young Philomena Dooley but fate brought her back together with Patrick Mahon her true love. She still has battles with Norah, Patrick's sister, especially as she married Norah's love Fergus Brogan, a marriage which was only one of convenience for Queenie, but she did produce a wonderful brood of children, and it was good to see their lives develop. It was interesting to see how they coped with the war and the immediate aftermath. Queenie's character could make you laugh and she had a fun side but it was good to see how she still held on to her love of Patrick and she was determined to spend the last days of his life with him despite Norah trying to lock her out of Patrick's life and his house too!
