What a joy to finally read the concluding book of the Ration Book series. The characters spring from the pages and having read the complete set it was lovely to have the resolution of many of the problems and worries among the Brogans and their wider families in one way or another. Also not ignoring the fact that life was not necessarily going to be a constant bed of roses for the foreseeable future.

I liked the way Queenie's history was gradually revealed in full between the chapters describing ongoing current events, concluding at the end of World War 2 and including the next steps for each of the family.

Jean Fullerton has really brought the experiences of people living through this time in the East End to life. Sadness and humour, cheeky characters you cannot help smiling at and some you would not enjoy being around all interweave in a book I found hard to put down once I started reading.
