I loved the cover of this and started it with great enthusiasm. I had high hopes of it having read a previous book in the series.
However, I was soon very confused between daughters and daughters in law. There appeared to be different lists of characters on every other page! The title appears to bear little resemblance to the actual story. Yes, it's a war story; yes, it continues the previous stories in the series, but there was little about the struggle of rationing.
Overall, sorry somehow it fell a little bit flat to me which was a shame but maybe I'm not the target audience?
I think it would certainly appeal to older readers, there is definitely an element of the Mary Jane Staples style to it and the charm of overcoming adversity in wartime. The characters are well formed and appealing.
On this occasion, I'm afraid it was just not for me.
