I have yet to read all the books in this series, so I will be reading the remainder out of order. Nevertheless, it soon became clear that this was in the style of the others in the series, with a lot of family characters vying for attention.

I liked the era of the setting for this final book, the upbeat nature of the characters for the most part, and the historical ties. Although the book moves between the current day and her childhood for the main character Queenie, it is easy to keep track of where the story is.

I did feel at times that there was a bit of deja vu with the characters. Also it is endlessly about babies (or the lack of) which was a little wearing, even if you are happy for the characters.

For the genre, it is an easy read. It's not too graphic and there are lots of evocative descriptions of food, homes and community. I took this book on holiday and it didn't take long to read!
