I have read some of the other books in this series so I was looking forward to having another encounter with the Brogans. As the final book in the collection, it is a great story to finish with.
This book brings the reader to the end of the war as the women celebrate the victory and start to look forward to their men returning. This story is based around Queenie and is written on two timelines, it goes back to her early life and how she found love with Patrick Mahon and how she ended up in rivalry with Patrick's sister Nora. Queenie ended up marrying Fergus, yet she still cares deeply for Patrick, and when Patrick becomes sick and ends up in hospital, Queenie is distraught. She has been hiding a secret from Patrick for years and wonders if now is the time that she should let it go.
I really enjoyed reading this book, I think it wouldn't matter if you haven't read any of the others as it could easily be read as a standalone.
