The war time Ration Book Saga series about the large East End Brogan family is brought to a fitting end with this book. All the loose ends are tied up satisfactorily as the men return from the war and each couple looks ahead and makes plans for their future lives.
This is a true love story as Queenie’s childhood relationship with Father Patrick Mahon and her enmity of his sister, Nora, is at last uncovered in stages during the book.
The Ration Book series is one which I would definitely have said was not the genre of book which I normally read - however, I loved them and I’m sorry that they have now concluded as I shall miss reading about the different members of the Brogan family.
I think I may even choose to read them all again one day - something that I rarely do unless it is a classic.
My only criticism was the tedious overuse of the present participle beginning most sentences!
