I didn't read the first book in this series before reading this one, (i'm now reading the first book) but I must say that it didn't affect my enjoyment of this installment.
So the reason I just had to read this book was actually due to reading the authors bio and seeing what he had studied at university. I mean with such an interesting history himself I just knew he would have a very well written and interesting book!
Even though this is not usually the kind of book I would read I'm very glad that i gave it a chance The story can be a little bit gory at times but It is very well written and was just very easy to get into.
Well worth the read and a great second book in a series. If you're a fan of George RR Martin then I feel you would enjoy this series.
