Viking Saga
I was slightly daunted when I received this book, as I hadn't expected it to be quite so large (at over 600 pages, you don't want to put this in your suitcase!). This genre is not one I usually read, but the original blurb sounded interesting and I thought I would give it a go.
The tale is an historical thriller, set in the Viking era. The book follows the battles, back-stabbing and lives of the 8th century Swedish characters. It actually becomes quite engrossing the more you read as the characters start to come to life.
I was slightly irritated to see that this was the second book in a series, but even so A Sacred Storm could stand as a standalone novel (maybe even two novels as it was so big). There was a fair bit of violence in the story which may put some people off.
All in all, this was a good read which took quite a bit of dedication!
