I loved the premise of this book and the magical realism elements that were incorporated. I think most people can relate to the themes discussed in this book especially the mental illness aspects. The writing style was very engaging and there was a good balance between the mature themes that were addressed and the humour.

Throughout the book Esther learns to address and acknowledge her fears. The 'curse' that Esther believes her family suffers from is much deeper than we think. I enjoyed the family dynamics and the friendships between the characters. In terms of the relationship between Jonah and Esther I believe it was handled very well. Jonah was very supportive of Esther and did not force her into doing anything she was uncomfortable with. Jonah helped her to overcome her fears without belittling her or making her feel bad about herself.
