The second installment of SJ Bennet's Royal murder mysteries. Queen Elizabeth becomes an armchair detective once again with the help of her secretary, Rosie. This time the plot centres around a death that seems like a tragic accident and a missing painting that turns up out of the blue. On behalf of the Queen, Rosie ends up in dark and dangerous underground tunnels, beautiful cotswold cottages and secretive art conservation studios.
I enjoyed 'A Three Dog Problem', and as an art history lover, I appreciated the references to many great artworks. Especially the focus on Artemisia Gentileschi (who has a fascinating and tragic life history) However I think this could become rather tedious for people who can't picture the artwork or appreciate their importance. I found the murders a bit more far fetched, and the story a little slower than the first novel, but overall it was a fun and enjoyable read!
