The body of a member of the Buckingham Palace staff is found by the Palace's swimming pool. The person who has died was not popular at it is ruled as an accident.
The book then jumps back three months to give the reader the lead up to this event.
The Queen comments that on a visit to Portsmouth she saw one of her paintings displayed there. She asks Rozie, her APS, to find out why it is there and not in BP and this leads to a chain of events that include poison pen letters, resignations and ultimately death.
The Queen isn't convinced that the death of Mrs Harris was an accident and asks Rozie to make some discreet enquiries about the letters. This in turn opens another can of worms and uncovers some unscrupulous practices that have been taking place within the Palace walls for many years.
Timewise this follows on from The Windsor Knot and is a delight to read.
