I really enjoyed the first book in this series ‘The Windsor Knot’ so I was delighted when I got my copy of this book. When I saw the premise of the first book I was a bit unsure, I thought it would be cheesy and silly but I was pleasantly surprised by how good the story and the characters were; I now envision the Queen whenever I see her to secretly be fulfilling the roles set out in these books.

The second book continues with the whodunit theme and we find one of the Queen’s favourite housekeepers dead, an apparent accidental death but our Queeny thinks not! We then delve into the mystery.
One of the things I love about the book is just how well written and believable the characters are and it helps you immerse yourself in the story. It has great humour, sometimes it was subtle and other times I laughed out loud and this was one of the best bits of the read for me was how happy it made me, which is odd for a mystery novel but it pulls it off so, so well.

There are enough twists and turns and great plot points to really keep you engaged with the story and the fact that it is set during the time of Brexit and the US presidential race really helps to ground the novel into a reality that we have all lived through and thus helps us get more into the story and what’s happenings.

Overall I loved this book, it has great pacing, the characters are funny and believable (no matter how extreme you think the Queen solving mysteries is), the mystery element is great and it left me feeling quite wholesome which in today’s climate it exactly what I want from a book.
