This is a pacey well written fantasy novel based in a kingdom where all the nobles can shapeshift into large versions of birds that can fly. Following her fathers death Aderyn becomes the protector of Atratys province. Unfortunately she is flightless and so should not be able to rule. This is her story of her journey into the capital of her Uncles kingdom to try to find out who arranged for her mother to be murdered. She seeks the hidden truth with some people helping her and others plotting behind the scenes.
The characters are well crafted and the plot will keep you reading just one more chapter.
I can recommend this book to a wider audience than would normally read this genre. I enjoyed it.
