It seems slightly too cliché. I’m an avid reader of fantasy but I found it too similar to so many other books I’d read. The title also is extremely generic, though I suppose the genre doesn’t leave a lot of room for unique titles. My first thought was that this main character was going to be a generic, typical, “why me?” Girl.
In spite of this, the writing is good and the plot intriguing. Aderyn seems like an interesting character with depth. Her inner and outer conflicts are worth reading and I found myself lost in the story on more than one occasion.
In the beginning, I was sceptical. The inciting incident was on the first page and I found that a little rushed. I was soon captivated by the writing style and plot. The writing style is exciting and somewhat elegant. Aside from the use of (in my opinion) overused tropes, this was a good read and I enjoyed it.
