I quite enjoyed reading A Throne of Swans.
I really liked the aspect of the nobles being able to turn into different types of birds, lending a big gap between the rich and poor, the nobles and the flightless who are treated so badly in some places and living under such decrees and laws as to make life a hardship.

One thing I loved about Adaryn was her love for her flightless companion Letya who she sees as her family, like a sister which ultimately becomes a weakness during a power play for the throne but makes her character all the more endearing.
Although I found Adaryn to be quite similar to most other YA fantasy heroines, she was likeable and I really admired her bravery and determination to do what’s right.

As for the supporting characters (Lucien , Odette and Aron) I really liked them too.
Lucien comes across arrogant but there’s a much deeper side to him.
Aron seems like he could be the bad guy but I enjoyed his development throughout as he became more open and we learnt more about him.
And as naive and innocent as Odette seems, she has a steely side to her that comes out when she needs it.

As for the villain of the story ... I’d like to say it was a surprise but they were a suspicious character from the get go so it wasn’t quite the plot twist it was maybe supposed to be? But there were still other plot twists that I didn’t guess which made it a good read.
