I was immediately drawn in when I saw this book on the shelf in my local bookshop- the dark cover complimented by the accents of gold and the family tree and map printed on the first few pages. I was excited to delve into this book which I expected to be a re-telling of Swan Lake with extended plot that the original fairytale did not supply.

Unfortunately, the writing style was not for me personally. I found it difficult to connect with the story and its characters because of the way the events were written. For example, at some points it felt like events of the character's day were being listed, giving the reader the bare minimum amount of details about how this event affected the character and the plot. The plot overall was good, I would have just preferred less listing of events and more detail about Aderyn's days in the palace.

One thing that I did enjoy was the development of the character's relationships with each other. This was done really well and the development felt genuine and heartfelt.

I would have just preferred a little more details about Aderyn's days in the palace.
