I loved the sound and look of this book. The cover is gorgeous . Scotland, 1949: Caro husband Alasdair have moved back to Kelly Castle, to the Laundry Cottage to be precise, living next door to the mother -in -law. With a tiny baby to care for and her mother -in -law dropping in unannounced she is lonely and longs for time for herself.

She is soon offered a project researching the family archives and a mysterious relative of whom there is nothing known about. Could this be what she needs to take back some control of her life again and feel more herself?

We switch between the forties and late eighteen hundreds in this extract and I was immediately drawn to the character of Caro, intelligent and quite a modern woman, I felt quite connected to her and the need to do something for herself again, despite loving her baby daughter. I am intrigued to see where this mystery goes and what connection the you Charlotte has to Kelly Castle and to the mysterious relative Caro will be tasked with researching.
