I was really excited to start reading this one as I thoroughly enjoyed 'the lost lights of at kilda'. I would say this book is even better. From the beginning we know there is a body buried in the grounds of the castle but we don't know who. The story goes back and forth from the late 1800s to 1949 as the history of the family living at Kelly castle unfolds. It is apparent that some parts of the family history have been purposefully erased from the records and we gradually get to find out what has gone on. The truth is heartbreaking for a lot of the central characters. It's also a good look at family relationships including mother in law, daughter on law which is very interesting. I definitely want to read more of Elisabeth Gifford's books as I couldn't put this one down once I had started it. It's not a really long book so perfect as a fairly quick read.
