Slow burner for me
To start with, i am sorry for the delay in writing my review for this book. Life!!
Anyway I am so pleased I won this book. The cover and the first read really hooked me and I was intrigued to find out what Caro would learn in her castle. I knew it was going to span two different time zones and I do like that kind of book, but when i am in the right mindset.
I don't think it has anything to do with the writer as its written well, just it feels that sometimes extras are added which aren't needed.
To be honest with you i found the book a slow burner, hence the title. I struggled to get engaged with the characters although i did and do empathise with Caro having to deal with the interfering Mother-in-law. She is way more patient than I would have been.
I suppose I finally got into it when the body was found and I then went on the journey to understand why and how this happened.
i found it fascinating learning about the life and times, felt sick with regards to prejudices but this just rings true of the world even now. For a first book well done!
