Very definitely a young adult novel, this futuristic story displays a heady mix of coming-of age, romance, vulnerability, bravery and friendship in its group of 12 isolated teenagers exposed to a world-wide reality television audience. The only aspect I found fault with was the immaturity, selfishness and unadulterated evil guile of the main adult characters.

The novel was originally written in French and the main character is an intelligent fiery French girl but the adventure includes another 11 nationalities and background stories, some of which are only briefly dealt with in this story. The ending is breathtaking and opens up to whole new adventures for the young people we have come to know. I certainly want to find out what happens next.

I think the clear diagrams of some aspects of the spacecraft and reproductions of screen displays are very helpful, particularly for readers new to the genre of science fiction.
