I read the second book to feature maverick police detective Will MacReady 'Unforgiveable' some time ago and loved it.
Ash and Bones was the first in the series - I wish I had read them in the right order.
Ash and Bones is the debut novel by an ex policeman. It is very good. It has the familiar ingredients of so many police procedurals - an intuitive, disobedient, newly recruited detective whose marriage is falling apart and whose family operate on the other side of the law teamed with a lesbian police sergeant. Nevertheless, Mike Thomas' plot in Ash and Bones is original and keeps the suspense building right until the last few pages - I didn't foresee how the victims were connected or how the book would end.
I'm looking forward to a third book featuring MacReady and Beck.
