I tend to avoid wartime books. Having spent a lot of time learning about World War Two in history lessons from different countries perspectives and reading many books set during those times, it isn't really an area of fiction that I choose to read. Especially since I know that there is like to be a lot of death and destruction surrounding it.

However, often there are some very enjoyable books set during those times. This book has the potential to be one of those. It tells you just enough information in the first few chapters to intrigue you and encourage you to keep reading. You learn a little about the characters to form an impression and attachments.

It is also combined with hard-hitting publications from the Nazi party at the time which remind you about the serious nature of the backdrop that the characters are based within.
