I initially wasnt sure what to expect or feel about this book, as its not my usual genre to read. However, I enjoyed it. It is a love story in a sense that the love felt is that of friendship, and how this can withstand the terror and horrors of war.
I love how the friendship is portrayed despite the girls differences. The characters themselves were quite complex
It was quite an emotional read, and overall it is quite a complex story. There were parts of the book which left me with questions though, it was as if the book didnt fully explain certain parts, may be to move it along and make it a shorter read. These left it feeling quite rushed.
Based on true events, each chapter has an excerpt at the beginning which really does highlight and provide some in site on to world war 2, and Hitler's own thoughts. I felt that it was these that brought the book alive by setting the scene for the entire read.
