I dont normally like books about the war but I just couldn't put this one down.
It is set in Belgium at the beginning of world war II in 1940. It follows two 18 year old friends Simone and Hava. Simone's dad is a general and is helping the resistance and the book is told from her point of view. And Hava is Jewish and her family go missing, when the german army start invading Brussels. This forces Simone and Hava to leave their homes and try to escape the germans who always seem to be just one step behind.
I love the friendship between the two girls and how they protected each other. I really like Hava and I thought she was such a caring girl. This book left me gripped at the end of each chapter wanting to find out more. It was such an emotional read but also inspiring. I also liked that bits of real life quotes and sayings where mentioned at the beginning of each chapter. Really made it all feel that much more real.
This was a 5 star read for me no doubt.
