Set in the course of the second world war, Ashes follows the moving story of two women. Hava and Simone grew up in completely different worlds but are inseparable. They are forced to flee, Hava is from a devout Jewish family. This is touching story where two drastically different women work together to help each other and look after one another. Their escape doesn't quite go to plan but I'll let you discover that for yourself. The way this book is written is great and really adds to the story. This is a heart gripping read with well developed complex characters who are beautiful to read about. A very enjoyable read throughout and one I definitely enjoyed. It took me from great joys to great sadness and everything in between.
