So devastating, yet so incredibly beautiful. This book is so heart wrenching and heart breaking. As the two girls friendship and basically sanity is tested over and over again you can't help but feel for them and mourn as they lose their youth and innocence in a time or war and battle. The relationship between both of them is plagued with so many obstacles and it is easy for the reader to find themselves in tears and gripping the book and you read them climb through each step in the book trying to find some sort of peace and harmony. The plot is so poignant and easy to get lost in that each character seems to be right in front of you as if you are also living through the story. This is a must read in historical fiction novels!
