Took me a little while to get into the story but once I did I was glad I persevered. There are a variety of engaging characters introduced in the book and this kept me both interested and entertained. The two central protagonists are well drawn being likeable without being too perfect which kept them believable and relatable. The novel was well written and events, places and people were well described and became alive in my imagination. The plot developed at a good pace with sub plots that provided additional intrigue to the story. I enjoyed being introduced and gaining insight into a different culture in an enthralling and enjoyable way. I thought the author handled issues raised in the book in a sensitive and discerning manner. A good heart warming read with a deft touch.
