So this book is a little longer than my more recent reads at 450 pages (my average book page count is around 300-350 recently) which is great as I want something to really get my teeth into, but also means that I don't expect to be making many correct assumptions in the first few chapters. However I still wanted to get my initial thoughts on paper.

Lets start by talking about the characters. I already adore Naomi. I have made this decision based on a few things. Her love for her dog Max is adorable. She is contemplating suicide which means she is clearly in a horrible place in her life, but is still thinking of Max and what will happen to him when she is gone. Also during chapter 2 we hear of the life she lives. The way her mum and sister do her food shop (the same things every week) and choose her clothes, how meeting someone romantically is near on impossible when you cant just "catch someones eye" and how the only aspect of her life she is in control of is the decision to live or die.

I am also very intrigued with this killer. We get our first glimpse into his life straight away in the prologue and we know he is male because he is referred to as 'he', we also know his mother is aware of his actions as she watches him bury a body through the window. The only thing I am a little confused by is the below paragraph. Does this mean he has buried another child (his own?) or has he buried another of his mothers children (a sibling?) or is it simply referring to 'another' human?

Mother knew what he had done, what he was capable of. Perhaps she had always known, known even before he did, and had been waiting for this very moment, sleeping lightly and ready to wake to watch her child bury another.

Reading on we hear of Hayley Millar, a young girl who went missing and was never found. I am guessing at this point that the woman who the man in the prologue was burying is either Hayley, or it is a flashback and it is Naomi (oh I really really hope not).

I am already asking myself a number of question so I know this is going to be a fab read.
