Black Mamba by William Friend is a strange and unsettling dark creepy novel.
Alfie lives with his 7 year old twin daughters following his wife Pippa's sudden death 9 months previously. The daughters announce that there is a man living in the house who no-one else can see. This man is called Black Mamba and can turn into animals and take the girls on strange voyages at nighttime.
Alfie is upset and struggling to deal with the children so turns to his wife's twin sister Julia. Julia has recently gone back to work as a psychotherapist so seems the perfect person to help. However the whole family experience strange events and Black Mamba seems to control the girls more and more while trying to take Alfie's place as their daddy. Add in the strange circumstances around Pippas death as well as Pippa and Julia's father previously in the house and the novel becomes more disturbing and haunting. This novel is very well written and takes you on a journey to an ending just as strange and dark. I enjoyed this novel as it was well written and descriptive just maybe slightly too dark for me.
