Without a doubt, I consider Call The Vet one of the best memoirs I have read recently. I am a huge animal lover, with a lovely dog of my own and I knew as soon as I read the blurb that I had to read this book. Call The Vet is a warm and heartfelt memoir tracking the life and career of Canadian vet extraordinaire Ben Fogle. It has an amazing sense of place as it is set during the 1970’s in London and I really got a feel for how London was back then. Ben Fogle got his start in the highly regarded Woodrow & Singleton where he honed his craft and tended to patients who were the pets of royalty and Hollywood starlets such as Elizabeth Taylor and Paul McCartney. He treated animals of all shapes and sizes from dogs and cats to monkeys and alligators. Funnily enough, despite his years of study, Ben Fogle learned much more from the pets and people he met through the course of his career than he could learn from any book. He was the original Super-vet and I consider this book as one of my biggest comfort books.
