Initially I was unsure about the premise of this book however, I needn't have worried - the storytelling of a young Canadian freshly qualified out of veterinary school in London gives a funny and insightful view of 1970's London and Londoners (as they were then - flares and all!).

Bruce's unique experience in as an outsider and his interpretation of the 'quirks' of the 'British' really does him credit. It gives a funny and insightful account of his early life and continues to highlight how even though the Canadians and British speak the same language - are very different indeed.

Life as a young vet made it all the more interesting for me - as I recently caught up with the antics of young Mr Herriot in Channel 5's remake of 'All Creatures Great & Small'.

The story was very well written, Bruce is an affable character and his storytelling flows nicely right up to settling down and his making Britain his permanent home.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book.
